Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Symptoms come and go. They can also vary from person to person.

Common symptoms include:

  • Abdominal cramps
  • Gas
  • Bloating
  • Pain that resolves with a bowel movement
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation
  • Urge to move bowels, but no stool is passed
  • Feeling of incomplete bowel movement
  • Urge to move bowels after having a bowel movement
  • Mucus in the stool

Call your doctor right away if you have one or more of the following:

  • Blood in the stool
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Changes in bowel habits outside of what you experience with IBS
