Placebo

A fake, innocuous treatment used in scientific studies to test the efficacy of another substance. A placebo is designed to appear as much as possible like the real substance being tested. Through the power of suggestion, placebo treatments can produce dramatic and long-lasting results in a majority of the people who are given them.
