By -- Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- Exercise is always important for good health, but it's especially beneficial for women who have had breast cancer.

The American Council on Exercise mentions these potential benefits:

  • Exercise can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence, death from breast cancer and death from all causes, compared to survivors who don't exercise.
  • Exercise can help prevent common problems among breast cancer survivors, including weight gain and muscle loss.
  • Exercise can help promote flexibility and range of motion in the shoulders.
  • Exercise can improve emotional well-being, reduce pain, improve fatigue, physical function and promote better quality of life.
