Reducing Your Risk of Osteoarthritis

by Cynthia M. Johnson, MA

En Español (Spanish Version)

Osteoarthritis (OA) develops over time due to many factors. There are no known ways to prevent OA. But there are steps to help keep bones and joints healthy:

  • Maintain a healthy weight to ease stress on joints.
  • Get regular exercise. Strong muscles protect joints from too much stress.
  • Learn the proper technique for exercise and sports.

Healthy bones and joints may slow the onset OA or lower the severity.
