Symptoms of Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer

Not all uterine cancers have symptoms at early stages. Cancer of the uterine muscle (sarcomas) do not always have early symptoms. Endometrial cancers often have early symptoms. Some symptoms are very general. They may be signs of other, less serious conditions. However, it is still important to talk to your doctor about them. Early detection and treatment can improve outcomes.

Common Symptoms

The most common symptom is abnormal uterine bleeding such as:

  • Bleeding between menstrual periods
  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • Bleeding after menopause
  • Spotting

Other symptoms may include:

  • Uterine fluid other than blood—may appear before bleeding
  • Pain during or after sex

Advanced Symptoms

Later stages of cancer may cause:

  • Pain in the belly or pelvis or a feeling of a mass
  • Belly bloating
  • Feeling of fullness even after only a light meal
  • Loss of appetite, which can lead to unintended weight loss
  • Changes in urinary and bowel function
